The top three movies at the box office over the long Labor Day weekend were neck and neck. But, it was 'The American' featuring George Clooney that prevailed, according to the Associated Press. Raking in $16.4 million this weekend, 'The American' was tops. Falling just short of the title was 'Machete,' taking in $14 million. Slightly behind was 'Takers,' which attracted $13.5 million in ticket sales. Fourth and fifth place were also very close calls. 'The Last Exorcism' won the number four spot by a slim margin with $8.8 million. Rounding out the top five with $8.6 million was Drew Barrymore and Justin Long in 'Going the Distance.'

In the end, the ultimate Silver Fox pulled ahead to win the Labor Day weekend box-office. His flick, The American, brought in $16.4 million over the long weekend!
Machete and Takers followed close behind with $14 million and $13.5 million, respectfully.
Drew Barrymore still sucked at #5!

Drew Barrymore's new movie Going the Distance completely tanked this weekend, opening up in fifth place with $2.2 million.
Guess people had no interest in seeing if Drew has any chemistry with her on-and-off boyfriend Justin Long.
Machete took the top spot with $3.9 million and George Clooney's The American came in second with $3.8 million.
So far, seems like a slow movie weekend.
